Lerwick, the Capital and only town in Shetland is a busy commercial centre with much to keep you interested for several days. In addition to the ancient monuments, the Shetland Museum and Archives and the busy harbour there is narrow, paved Commercial Street full of interesting shops. Why not take the chance to buy an authentic Fair Isle sweater with its complex patterns or pick up other island crafts. There are a variety of restaurants and cafes offering a wide range of food from fresh fish and chips to local beef as well as indian and chinese food.

Explore Lerwick:
A short walk will take you to a coastal path leading to a beautiful sandy beach at the Sands of Sound. There is also vehicle access to the beach. A longer walk around the Ness of Sound will provide beautiful scenery and the opportunity to see birds and marine life. The 3000 year old Broch of Clickimin is a stones throw away from the Clickimin Leisure Centre which provides swimming pool, gym and health suite.

The award winning Shetland Museum is the gateway to Shetland's Heritage and Culture. Mareel, our new cinema and music venue, opened in autumn 2012 and offers world class music and the latest films.
